In the Breton language, Yermat (Yec’hed mat) means health. It is a wish that Bretons, like Brazilians, usually express when clinking glasses, and it is naturally one of the first (the only?) words in Breton that Pablo and Marcus learned when they set foot in Brittany. The result of an exchange between Brazil and France, this highly inventive and atypical quintet was born.

This shared conviviality, this desire to play and create together in complete freedom, are common reasons why these five musicians from very different artistic and cultural backgrounds (a harmonica/guitar duo with Brazilian choro accents, and a clarinet/double bass/drum trio rocked by experimental jazz) still enjoy getting together and playing together. In this way, their music flirts, sizes each other up, and becomes familiar, blending into an open and free universe, where sounds tinged with joyful Brazilian melancholy shine through.

Pablo Fagundes

A graduate of the Brasília School of Music and Claretiano University, he studied under Maurício Einhorn, a pioneer and icon of Bossa Nova on the chromatic harmonica. Einhorn describes him as a “musician of rare ability and sensitivity.” Creator and teacher of the chromatic harmonica course at the Raphael Rabello School (Choro Club of Brasília), Pablo has led Brazilian music workshops at Georgetown University (Washington, DC), the University of Richmond (Virginia, USA), and the Australian National University, as well as presentations at Northwestern University (Illinois, USA) and the 44th SPAH (Society for the Preservation and Advancement of Harmonica) in Milwaukee (Wisconsin, USA).
With guitarist Marcus Moraes, the duo has been touring for 12 years and has already recorded four CDs, focusing on composition and reinterpretations of Brazilian music classics. The two musicians have organized musical presentations and Brazilian music workshops around the world: the United States, France, Holland, Austria, Belgium, Spain, and Australia.

Marcus Moraes

A graduate in guitar from the University of Brasilia, he is a composer, arranger, musical director, and guitarist. In 2003, he won the Brasilia Instrumental Music Festival. The following year, he was one of 24 musicians selected for Brazil’s biggest instrumental music competition, the Visa Award. His 2017 solo album, Músicas que me vêm de repente, earned him the title of “one of Brazil’s best instrumentalists” from the website Melhores da Música Brasileira. Marcus has also taught guitar and ensemble practice at the Brasilia School of Music and at several private educational institutions in the Federal District.
